Course Reflection

It is the end of the class, the difference between foreign teacher lesson before is that we have a Chinese teacher this time. So if we had any questions, she would use Chinese language to explain to us. In the last few days, we had learned a lot of software and tools which will be used usefully in our future teaching career.

In our class, Dr. Wang introduced us a lot of tools we will surely used in our teaching. For example, I like Padlet, Classdojo and Powtoon best. Padlet is an electronic white board, students can post videos and tests as well as take photos. Such as Classdojo, we can create more interesting class form rather than traditional class and parents can participate in class and come up with opinion, which will promote communication between parents and teachers. Powtoon is a very interesting software to create a video, we can add our audio or background music into the video to show students the course content. I think this three tools are very useful for me.

On the other hand, I think I will use wenjuanxing instead of the other three tools like pollevery , testmoz and rubistar. Because I was used to creating the questionnaire by wenjuanxing, which is popular than other three tools in China. On the other side, the operation of wenjuanxing is easier.So I think it is more convenient to use.

During our group work, I use Youdao Dictionary to look up the words and translate. And my group task is to search materials and assignments, so I also use Baidu Website to search information or pictures as well as I use Baidu encyclopedia to search materials.

During our group cooperation, I think we lack communication with each other and the group leader has undertaken most of the tasks. So I think we can avoided this situation if we assign tasks properly. But our team is very unity, if anyone has problems, team members will help to solve it. So as far as I am concerned, the whole process is very harmony and amity.

In this class, I know about a lot of software that I didn’t contact, such as Powtoon, I did not understand how to operate it at first. However, when I have been using it for a long time, it became easy and convenient to operate it, which is my strong points in my opinion. On the other hand, I lack the ability to communicate my ideas with the team members. In many cases, I listen to other people’s opinions and ideas rather than express my own feelings, which is my weak point.

I hope that I can apply the knowledge I have learned in these lessons to the future teaching career, and share my learning experience and ideas with my students. I will introduce these software to others who are interested in.

Day Seven

Online Questionnaire, Worksheet, and Quizzes

e68d95e88eb72222Today, we were asked to create a quiz to assess our learning outcomes. We have used polleverywhere, wenjuanxing and testmoz to make an investigation. In my opinion, they are full of differences and they show us various production methods. It is very convenience to use wenjuanxing to create a quiz, we can set up exam mode or the form of questions. After finishing the questions, we can evaluate and analyze the results. On the other hand, we can evaluate the results through testmoz, which is very clear and intuitional. I think every online questionnaire is suitable for us to create a quiz, we can choose the questionnaire form that suits us.

e68d95e88eb71I explore some functions of wenjuanxing which I have not noticed before such as we can design test time in the test mode, and then know about children’s learning situation after finishing the quiz. With this function, I designed some quiz about our topic: “Approach to a clock” so that I can know about children’s understanding and their master degree of the clock, which can be convenient for me to offer different courses to children of different learning situations and improve their learning efficiency with it.

It’s very important and convenient to integrate these tools into classroom teaching. Before class, we can let children to answer these questions, in order to know about their learning situation, which can make sure whether my class plan is suitable for every child.

These projects met one of the ISTE standards: “Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments”, I think I can use resulting data of the quiz to design learning and teaching, which make sure I can make a course plan based on the learning ability of different children.

Video Editing

Today, we enhanced the understanding of the digital story-telling, such as when\ why and how it is used in classroom. Whenever, teacher can use this software to enhance our learning, motivation, engagement and to bulid our technology skills. There are some advantages of using digital story-telling in education. For example, it provides more variation than traditional in current practice, we can create real life situations in an easy and cheaper way as well as it can improve the involvement of students in the process of learning. It will be used to make our plan and create images, music and create our digital story in classroom teaching and learning.

I choose “Powtoon” to edit my video, because it was my first time to use this tool, so I was faced with a lot of problems during editing my video. For example, I did not understand the operational process, which caused me to spend much time on studying it. Another problem was that I did not log in, and I tried many times, so I waste much time to create my video. But fortunately, my partners gave me some help and I  was getting more and more proficient with this tool at last. So I think it is not very difficult.

I have some suggestions to give to those who want to use video in their classes. Firstly, I want to say that powtoon is very useful and interesting tool to create a video, you can add your audio or music into it. And then, when you meet any problems during creating, don’t give up. As long as you have the patience to understand and learn this tool, you will create videos that satisfy you.

The audio and video projects meet one of the ISTE standard: “Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.” Becasue most of us is the first time to use powtoon to create videos, so I think it can enhance our operation of this technology, which can increase our imagination and creativity during creating the video.

I think today’s lesson will be very helpful in my teaching career.

Day Five

Audio Editing

2058265127-e1505131659656Today, we were asked to create a audio file to teach the content in the lesson plan. We can use any tools to create audio. I choose original sound recorder in my mobilephone to create audio. Firstly, I recorded my voice into my phone. The content is about how to make the clock, I introduced the materials and stages. And then, I uploaded the voice to Baidu cloud and copy it into my blog. In my opinion, I am familiar with this operation, so it’s very convenient for me to create audio file with this tool.

e68d95e88eb7In the afternoon, Dr. Wang asked us to make a video, we use this software to make a video. It is a good tool for us to make wonderful and fluent video. Throughout the production process, I was faced with a lot of problems. For example, it is my first time to use this software to create the video, so I did not understand the operational process, which caused me to spend much time on studying it. Another problem was that I did not log in, and I tried many times, so I waste much time to create my video.

It is very helpful and efficient for me to integret the audio and video materials into classroom teaching, which brought me new experiences and challenges. At the same time, I also know about more methods to create videos. Fortunately, when I have any problems, my partners can help me and solve it together.

Day Four

Website Design

Today, we learn about how to make a web page. Web page needs network to make, which can include PPT, videos and picutres. Students can share their web page with others. It is far more different from a document page. For example, a document page is often to write articles and it is more privacy.

A website is convenient for us to check information. We need to link network to get online. Compare with a web page, it is more complicated. The reason I  need to plan my site with a storyboard ahead of time is in order to clear the plan and direction, which is helpful to convey a clear message to others.

Each group created one course site, which is divided into four parts: Home, Courses Materials, Assignment and Resources. I am responsible for Courses Materials and Assignment with other two partners in my team. Our course site is based on our lesson plan, so we searched the Internet for information on our subject:”Approach to clock”. Because of the first time to make the website, so we are faced with some challenges such us we are not familiar with the website operation. Fortunately, we solved the problem through the efforts of the team members.

This project help me meet one of the ISTE standards is: “Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.” Because we did the website for the first time, so we found something new which we have not met. I think it can help me increase my creativity and experiences. Through making website, we have more chance to share our thoughts with others and learn things from others.

My experience with class management software: classdojo

2Classdojo is free online software which can create positive culture, students can express their real thoughts through it,  it can also share photos and wonderful classroom moments with parents, and involve them in teaching. It is far more different from traditional class, students can participate in the class in an innovative way.

From this project, I know that as a teacher, we can create more interesting class form rather than traditional class. On one side, students will be interested in new learning style, which can make them have a sense of freshness. In another aspect, parents can participate in class and come up with opinion through classdojo. Compared to traditional classroom  model, classdojo have more positivity.

I think classdojo is very useful for myself. In classroom meeting, I can share my learning experience with other students and ask parents to keep abreast of their children’s learning. I hope this class management software can stimulate students’ interest in learning and give them more learning help.

This project can connect to ISTE standards such as ” Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.” Teacher can encourage students to explore new real-world  issues which they haven’t met, stimulate their imagination and creativity in the virtual environments from it.

Integrating electronic white board in classroom teaching

捕获.PNGIn the afternoon, Dr. Wang introduced us padlet, it is an electronic white board, students can post videos and tests as well as take photos. After creating, they can share their padlet with others through adding it to blog.

Students can choose to be public or not to protect privacy, in my opinion, it provides private space for students to some extent, which is good for them to express what they really think. It is helpful to promote the communication between teacher and students, which increases the teacher’s understanding of the students.

In classroom teaching, I will encourage students to introduce themselves and express their thinking to each other. Students can also visit others’ home page to share and leave a message.

This project connects one of the ISTE standards:”Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.” Firstly, students can introduce themselves to others by some interesting ways, with different kinds of pictures as head and set their own page. Secondly, they share interesting things with others through this project. What’s the most important is that they can develop their imagination and let others remember you in a unique way.

Day Two

My understanding on the flipped classroom

Today, Dr. Wang introduced flipped classroom and how it worked, students who is at home can learn the lessons through flipped classroom. It is more convenient than traditional teaching method and it provides more time and opportunity for interation. As a college student, I want my professors to use this method. Because I can choose the course which I am interested in and I think it can enrich my spare time. In the future, if I teach a class, I think I will use this method. Because I believe this technology will be more and more advanced, children can choose the course on the basis of their interests and flipped classroom can improve their ability to learn independently.

Working experiences on creating a lesson plan with the flipped classroom teaching model

In our class, we also create a lesson plan, our topic is about approach to clock. When we create the plan, we have some problems that we do not understand children’s ability to recognize numbers, so we can’t make a clear plan for teaching children to know the clock. On the other hand, we use the game which is related to numbers to stimulate children’s understanding of numbers, so I think it was exciting about this project. From this project, I learn that teacher should teach children knowledge combine with interesting games or music, which is useful to improve their interest and learning efficiency.

My experiences on working on the survey

At last, we used https://www.polleverywhere.com/ to created a survey to get to know students’ knowledge background and technology skills with several questions. Our subject area is small, so we meet some problems such as we can’t think too many questions about our topic. I think this tool was easy to use. Because we just have to choose the template and then raise the questions. The final survey looked very distinct. I will use this tool to know about more children’s learning situation and teach children in various ways according to their different learning ability.

My Chinese name is Shuming Ge and my English name is Shelly. I like going shopping and seeing movies with my friends. My major is pre-school education. The reason I chose it is that I like children very much, I think their simple world can make me feel relaxed. Children are easily satisfied so I can get along with them without too many complicating factors. So I enjoy my major and I think it is a right choice.

Today’s class was to explore trends, issues, and tools related on the use of technology with young children from birth to 4th grade of all abilities in inclusive settings.  We also know about that instructional technology can develop children’s intelligence and enhance their knowledge. But there are issues in instructional technology such as lack of instructional models or strategies. Assistive technology can help disabled children.

In our class, we saw three videos. From those we can see that teacher use different technologies to cultivate children’s different abilities such as aspects of hearing, moving and learning. I keep in mind that the teacher use Ipad to record every children’s reading situation so that she can evaluate and encourage them through it. We also see children match the things and numbers on the screen, the teacher give every child chance to play this game. In my opinion, it can help children know the number and count.
